Phentermine is prescribed for short term use to accelerate weight loss in accordance with diet and exercise. Phentermine works as an appetite suppressant to reduce caloric intake and trigger weight loss in overweight or obese individuals within a matter of weeks.
Phentermine is typically taken within 30 minutes prior to meals to reduce appetite. Phentermine is administered in tablet or capsule form before each meal (three times per day). Taken with water, Phentermine absorbs water to create a sensation of fullness. Phentermine must be taken on a short-term basis in a program outlined by a medical professional and should be taken just as prescribed. Phentermine can be habit-forming and should not be taken beyond the time frame allotted.
Do not double dose to make up for the dose you missed. Simply take the next dose before your next meal and continue your regular dosing schedule.
Those allergic to Phentermine should consult a medical professional before taking this medication. Medications that may interfere with Phentermine or cause additional side effects along with it include antidepressants such as Zoloft, Paxil and Prozac (among others). Those on MAO inhibitors such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar) and tranylcypromine (Parnate), as well as certain insulin medications should tell their doctor or pharmacist before taking phentermine.
